Q: What is a small group?
A: A small group typically consists of 8-14 people who have a common desire for community and growth. Small groups are designed to encourage authentic friendships, to challenge one another to grow spiritually, and to provide prayer support for one another. We currently run three 13-week small group sessions per year and the theme and topics of each session are different each time. Some sessions every group goes over the same material, while other times each group discusses different topics or studies.
Q: Who can be in a Small Group?
A: Anyone who wants to get connected, develop friendships, and/or dig deeper in their knowledge of God and the Bible.
Q: Why should I commit to one more thing in my already busy schedule?
A: Let's face it: Sunday morning is great but it is hard to develop any deep relationships or serious community from the Sunday service. The service helps us worship and guides us in our thoughts and understanding of God's instruction for our lives. It does not and cannot meet that need for community though. Small groups help us really get to know one another. In small groups we go deeper. We come to know and are known by others. We share joy and sorrow and probably some great snacks. God created us to need each other. Small groups help meet this need and allow us to do life together.
Q: I am new to Fellowship of Grace, where do I start?
A: We recommend jumping into a small group as soon as possible. If we are in the middle of a session, we will do our best do get you connected to some of the people at FOG so that you can be ready to join small groups next time they start. Also, we have a newcomer’s luncheon on a Sunday afternoon after church every other month, which is another great way to get to know some of the leader’s of our church and learn more about Fellowship of Grace.
Q: What if I am ready to get more involved but I am a new Christ-follower?
A: We recommend that you jump into the next available section of the Foundations small group. This group is designed to give you the information and relationships you need to grow to the next level. We offer this class on a rotating basis, so stay tuned for the next time we offer this small group.
Q: Where do small groups meet?
A: Usually, the groups will meet at the home of one of the small group’s members, but groups can meet in a variety of places. The only requirement is that the usual meeting place allows for real conversation to take place and relationships to grow.
Q: Is there childcare offered?
A: Each session we try to have at least a few groups that have childcare provided by the church. The children are usually watched at the home where your small group meets in order to be most convenient for you.
Q: What groups are available if I am ready to dig deeper?
A: Small groups at FOG are dynamic. Most small groups will build in a regular fellowship time as part of their meeting schedule. The Small Groups Pastor and leadership team of Fellowship of Grace will offer small groups based on the needs and desires of the congregation. The church will periodically survey the congregation to determine the best groups to offer.
Q: How do I sign up and get connected?
A: Make a note on the back of your Connection Card that is on your table Sunday morning. Contact the Small Groups Pastor, Derrick Abell at 636-577-3575 or smallgroups@fogkc.com.
